In honor of @secdebhaaland, I had the the privilege of creating this for @_illuminatives. I remember on Monday afternoon while listening to her get confirmed, I happened to be working on her face and it felt like I was doing her makeup. (I even gently asked her to hold still so I can get her eyebrows perfect.) With tears of joy, I started talking with her like she was there and thanking her for all that she has done and will continue to do. It was such an emotional and dynamic moment. Thank you @_illuminatives for allowing me to create this painting.

I created “Shoulders of Our Ancestors” to transmute generations of pain into joy and celebrate Madame Secretary Deb Haaland. She represents so much - those gone, forgotten, lost. She represents those who have sacrificed, endured, and overcome. This painting symbolizes our compassion, honor, and power.

  Thanks for posting this, John. All of Biden's cabinet appointments are important, but Haaland's posting is historic and I hope, will lead to real change in land policy.
